2018 WLU Summer Institute

WLU Scholarships

The Whole Language Umbrella has scholarships available for teachers to attend the Literacies for All Summer Institute in Baltimore, Maryland (July 12-14, 2018). Teachers who embrace whole language practices in their elementary, middle, or high school classroom will be considered. The scholarship supports registration costs (100%) and one year of NCTE annual membership (100%). Each award is valued to be no more than $300.

Call for Nominations

Nomination Deadline:  May 20, 2018

WLU-TAWL Scholarship
One teacher from each of the member TAWL groups may be nominated to receive the WLU-TAWL Scholarship. To facilitate the selection process, the following criteria are recommended as each TAWL group considers whom to select to be this year’s scholarship recipient:

  • First-time WLU Literacies for All Summer Institute attendees
  • Attending the conference OR presenting and attending the conference
  • Commitment to local TAWL activities

Once selected, please send nominee name, mailing address, and email address to wlu@ncte.org



WLU Summer Institute Scholarship

Teachers not belonging to a TAWL group may be nominated to receive a WLU Summer Institute Scholarship. One teacher will be awarded the scholarship each year. To apply, please submit the following information:

  • Name, mailing address, and email address
  • Number of WLU Summer Institutes presented at and/or attended
  • Brief description of how whole language beliefs and practices have influenced your teaching life (no more than 400 words).

An individual may be awarded a scholarship every three years.

Scholarship winners will be notified in May.
We appreciate your support of this initiative to bring more whole language teachers to the Literacies for All Summer Institute.
