WLU Reclaiming the Joy of Teaching Award

2017 Award Recipient:  Elisa Waingort

Elisa WaingortElisa Waingort has been an educator for over 30 years and has taught in public and international schools in both North and South America. During her professional career she has always worked with English language learners in a variety of bilingual and immersion situations. She has been a Curriculum Coordinator at two international schools and is currently a 5th-grade teacher at Academia Cotopaxi, an American International School in Quito, Ecuador. She is working on her EdD at the University of Southern Australia in Adelaide. Elisa is passionate about teaching and student learning, which are at the core of all decisions she makes in the classroom.

Join us in recognizing Elisa at the Opening Session during the 2017 Literacies for All Summer Institute in Tucson, Arizona.


Nomination Deadline:  January 15

Purpose:  This award honors a preK-12 teacher that inspires authentic progressive literacy learning.

Award Specifics:  The recipient receives a certificate, Summer Institute registration, and one-year complimentary NCTE/WLU membership presented by the WLU President at the Opening Session during the Literacies for All Summer Institute.

Deadline:  The Nomination Form must be submitted by January 15 to the Awards Committee at

Judging:  The award is presented at the discretion of the WLU Executive Board and at the recommendation of the Awards Committee.
