Charge
In light of recent research, public policy initiatives, and extant NCTE reports, guidelines, resolutions and policies on literacy assessment, the NCTE Executive Committee charges the Commission on Assessment to issue specific research-based recommendations on two questions.
- How can literacy assessment and literacy assessment policies be improved for the individual learner of the twenty-first century.
- How do these recommendations best offer guidelines for districts, states, and national agencies.
While current NCTE documents offer broad guidelines about assessment practices, to date NCTE has not provided an authoritative document that makes specific recommendations to parents, teachers, and policy makers.
