Members of NCTE have elected Douglas Hesse to the office of Vice President of NCTE. Hesse is a professor of English and executive director of writing at the University of Denver in Colorado. He has served on the CCCC Executive Committee as Chair (2004-05); as the program chair for the 2004 CCCC Convention in San Antonio, and numerous other CCCC and NCTE Committees. He is also the founding chair of the NCTE/Norman Mailer Student Writing Awards. Hesse will take office during the NCTE Annual Convention in Boston in November, will become president-elect in 2014, and will assume the presidency of the Council during the 2015 Annual Convention in Minneapolis.
