The 2007 Paul and Kate Farmer English Journal Writing Award
The Paul and Kate Farmer English Journal Writing Awards are given to authors of the best articles published in English Journal during the previous volume year. Eligible entrants must be high school teachers and may include those on leave or not currently teaching.
Winners of 2007 awards are:
Raquel Cook for “Beyond Tolerance: Teaching English in a Post-9/11 Classroom" (November 2006)
and
Kiran Subhani Qureshi for “Beyond Mirrored Worlds: Teaching World Literature to Challenge Students' Perception of "Other'" (November 2006)
Honorable Mentions were awarded to:
Tom Liam Lynch for “Illuminating Chaucer through Poetry, Manuscript Illuminations, and a Critical Rap Album" (July 2007)
and
Michael J. Michell for “Teaching for Critical Literacy: An Ongoing Necessity to Look Deeper and Beyond" (November 2006)
The committee chair was Tom Scott, and members included Mary Ellen Dakin, Karen Hartman, Rina Moog, Wanda Porter, and Pam Schoen.
Awards will be presented at the NCTE Annual Convention in November during the Secondary Section Luncheon.
