Guidelines for Submitting a Reader's Commentary

This new "Reader's Commentary" feature invites Council Chronicle readers to submit a short opinion piece and an original photograph on a topic of interest to English language arts educators.

The opinion piece should be between 500 and 800 words in length, include a relevant title, and include an end credit with author name, school affiliation and teaching level, city, state, and email address.

The accompanying photograph should be an original, interesting shot that is relevant to the text, and should include an appropriate caption of one or two sentences. The photograph must be a high-resolution digital file which can be emailed to NCTE as an attachment.

The author will be asked to sign a consent form assigning publishing rights for the essay and photograph to NCTE, as well as to provide signed photo release forms for any adults and students pictured. Electronic copies of these forms are available by sending requests to .

Inquiries, commentaries, and photographs may be emailed to . NCTE staff will acknowledge submissions by email and will provide feedback within two to three months as to whether the submission will be considered for publication in a future issue of The Council Chronicle.
