Sarah R. RobbinsSarah Robbins has thirty years of experience teaching English/Language Arts in K-12, community college, and university classrooms. A National Writing Project site director for over a decade, she is also director of the Keeping and Creating American Communities (KCAC), a K-university program supporting students’ and teachers’ interdisciplinary research and writing about community life. Two books co-edited by Sarah—Writing America and Writing Our Communities—have grown out of the KCAC project and share work by classroom teachers in the program. Sarah has written extensively for journals such as College English, English Journal, and English Education, including essays on teacher professional development, integrating writing and literature instruction, new approaches to teaching literature, doing community research, and using writing assessment to support learning.

Selected Presentations
Sarah has presented at many conferences, including the American Literature Association, Modern Language Association, NCTE, CCCC, and the National Writing Project. She often presents on building a collaborative community studies program and literature.
Professional Consulting Experiences
Sarah has assisted groups in many ways by reviewing grant proposals, book manuscripts and books, writing programs, English language arts programs, and as an advisor to community outreach projects.
ReadWriteThink Lesson Plan "Supporting Vocabulary Development with EASE"
This lesson plan was published in cooperation with the Kennesaw Mountain Writing Project. The plan allows teachers to enrich students’ oral and written language with an easy and systematic routine for teaching academic and robust vocabulary: EASE! Enunciate, Associate, Synthesize, and Emphasize the words you want students to use in classroom writing and conversations.
Workshops Facilitated
Sarah has facilitated National Writing Project models of inservice, U.S. Embassy teachers, and teachers writing workshops.
Holocaust Education Workshop
Teachers are invited to explore key themes associated with learning about the Holocaust and related topics through study of texts such as Night and The Diary of Anne Frank in this interactive half-day session.

Writing Our Communities: Local Learning and Public Culture
Writing Our CommunitiesSarah is the coeditor of this publication that emphasizes writing and student inquiry, as students become engaged with their community. This across the discipline collection offers teachers ready-to-use classroom resources with a sound basis in best practice.
Making American Literatures
Making American LiteratureSarah worked with authors Gere and Shaheen in developing this publication and wrote one chapter.

Education and Professional Experiences
Sarah Robbins has a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and undergraduate and master's degrees from the University of North Carolina. Currently she is a professor at Kennesaw State University. In addition, she is a former primary and secondary teacher.
Awards and Honors
Kennesaw State University Foundation recently awarded Sarah a Distinguished Professor award and in 2001 she was awarded the President's Award for Community Engagement. The American Studies Association awarded her the Constance Rourke Prize for the best article in a quarterly journal. She won several awards at the University of Michigan including the Regents' Fellowship.
Grants and Directorships
Sarah has been the project director for many grants, including "Keeping and Creating American Communities" and two other National Humanities Endowment grants, "Making American Literatures" and "Domesticating the Canon." A number of her publications are the result of this work.
Memberships in Professional Organizations
Not only is Sarah a long-time NCTE member, she is also involved in the Modern Language Association, Society for the Study of American Writers, the National Women's Studies Association, and CCCC.
