Barbara FloresBarbara Flores is a teacher educator and professor at California State University, San Bernardino. For the past 15 years she has been engaged in collaborative action research with teachers and administrators in their implementation and transformation of whole language with culturally and linguistically diverse children. She coauthored Reading in a Bilingual Classroom: Literacy and Biliteracy with her mentors, Drs. Kent and Yetta Goodman, and has published various articles and chapters in journals and books. Barbara looks forward to working with your preschool or elementary school on Beginning Literacy and Biliteracy Development; Second Language Development across the Content Areas; Beginning ELL Readers; Struggling ELL Readers; and Teaching English Language Learners for mainstream teachers.

Barbara consults across the nation, concentrating her efforts in California and other areas of the Southwest.
Selected Presentations
Her experiences span across the board but Barbara has concentrated her efforts on literacy in bilingual education programs; Spanish literacy, and expository writing.
Projects/Partnerships in Professional Development
Barbara has consulted with schools on teaching English language learners in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and other areas of California. Her partnerships created successful early literacy programs.

Publications
Barbara has published several articles in books on bilingual education topics, including this chapter, "Biliteracy as Social Practice in Schooling: A Bilingual First Grader’s Journey in Learning to Read and Write in L1 and L2.” She also wrote the chapter, “The Intellectual Presence of the Deficit View of Spanish Speaking Children in the Educational Literature during the 20th Century.” Learn more about Barbara's publications here.

This talented consultant has her Ph.D. from the University of Arizona, Graduate School of Education in Reading, Higher Education Administration, & Bilingual Education. Her Masters is from California State University, Sacramento in Reading Education. Barbara was in the classroom as an ESL instructor and reading teacher.
