Projects and Professional Experiences

  • Regional English Language Officer, Indonesia, Philippines and Malaysia (2000-2003)
    Responsibilities include providing consultations, workshops, course sessions, seminars, program and materials evaluations and other forms of technical and professional support to educational programs in designated region. The position includes evaluating educational programs and systems, providing aspects of in-service and pre-service teacher education programs, working with doctoral students in the field of language education, preparing materials for EFL programs, organizing seminars, conferences, meetings, book fairs, exchange networks and academic specialist programs, interviewing candidates for exchange programs and overseeing office budgeting and financial planning.
     
  • Public Affairs Officer, Baku, Azerbaijan (l997-2000)
    Responsible for public diplomacy work for the American Embassy in Baku.  Oversaw a $6,000,000 annual educational development and exchanges budget which included MA scholarships, secondary school exchanges, a research grants program, university partnerships, librarian training, English language teaching, book translation and publications, teacher resource centers, democracy fund grants program, internet access and training program and secondary schools linkages.  Press and media functions included monitoring the press and media, acting as embassy spokesperson and advocating a free, pluralistic and independent press/media.
     
  • Regional English Language Officer for southern Africa (l993-l996)
    Responsibilities include providing consultations, workshops, course sessions, seminars, program and materials evaluations and other forms of technical and professional support to  EFL/ESL programs in southern Africa.  The position included evaluating language education programs, providing aspects of in-service and pre-service teacher education programs, working with doctoral students in the field of language education, preparing materials for EFL programs, organizing seminars, conferences, meetings, book fairs, exchange networks and academic specialist programs, interviewing candidates for exchange programs and overseeing office budgeting and financial planning.
     
  • Deputy Director, Title VII Multifunctional Resource Center for Southeastern Region (1991-1992)
    Responsibilities:  Preparing conducting workshops, seminars and in-service training course on various aspects of applied linguistics, TESOL methodologies, cross-cultural communication and understanding and teaching content to limited English proficient students, preparing  monthly and annual reports, writing grant requests, providing consultation to schools and individual educators upon request.
     
  • Instructor and Assistant Coordinator, TESOL Program, Teachers College, Columbia University
    Responsibilities: Teaching courses in Reading and ESL, Content-Based ESL, Supervision, Computers, Language Learning and Literacy and Practica for pre-service teachers, advisement, data-base maintenance, entrance and exit interviewing, correspondence work and supervision of pre-service ESL/EFL teachers
     
  • City University of New York: Instructor in Continuing Education Program for In-service Teachers (Graduate Center)
    Responsibilities: Taught "Principles of Second Language Acquisition"
     
  • Lehman College, City University of New York: Instructor
    Responsibilities:  Taught Freshman Composition course for limited English proficient  students
     
  • American Language Program, Columbia University
    Responsibilities:  Taught courses in English for Academic Purposes
     
  • University of Pristina, Yugoslavia: Fulbright Lecturer
    Responsibilities:  Taught courses in composition, teaching methods and language and the disciplines, drama program director, curriculum development committee chair, supervision of pre-service teachers
     
  • American International School, Lisbon, Portugal: Teacher 7-12
    Responsibilities:  Taught courses in World Literature, American Literature for ESL/EFL students, Reading and Writing for ESL/EFL and American History for ESL/EFL students, senior class advisor
     
  • Tutor School of New York: Teacher 9-12
    Responsibilities:  Taught courses in American and European History, year book advisor
     
  • John F. Kennedy High School, Bronx, NY: Teacher, 9-12
