Beverly ChinBeverly Ann Chin enjoys working with teachers and students at all levels of education around the world. As Director of the English Teaching Program at the University of Montana, she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses for beginning and experienced English language arts teachers. Beverly is the author of On Your Own: Writing (Prentice Hall, 1990) and On Your Own: Grammar (Prentice Hall, 1991); Senior Program Advisor for The Reader’s Choice (Glencoe/McGraw Hill, 2000) and Senior Series Consultant for Grammar for Writing (William H. Sadlier, 2000). She appears on The Expanding Canon, a video program sponsored by the Annenberg Foundation and NCTE (WNET-13, 2003). As a past president of NCTE and a former board member of National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, Beverly consults on nearly all aspects of English language arts instruction across all grade levels.

Beverly consults for schools and universities and in addition she has been involved as a literacy expert in several video professional development programs regarding multicultural literature. These videos were produced by Annenberg Foundation/Corporation for Public Broadcasting Foundation in collaboration with NCTE and WNET-13.

Beverly is a former high school teacher who went on to receive her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction: Reading & Language Arts, with a minor in Secondary Education from the University of Oregon.
Involvement with NCTE
Beverly served as president of NCTE from 1995–1996 and has been involved with several nominating committees. She has also served on several award committees including the Literacy Award and David H. Russell Award.
Pathways to Advance Adolescent Literacy
PathwaysThis consultant's work helps educators think about what it means to be literate in the 21st century. This is one of the main areas within Pathways a professional development learning pathway for individual teachers, school and district teams, and state-wide iInitiatives.
