- Independent Literacy Consultant, K-12, 2003–Present
- Workshops and Presentations
- Day-long, multiple-day, and weekend interactive professional development presentations on all aspects of literacy instruction, including writing workshop, reading workshop, genre studies, assessment, strategies for emergent readers and writers of all ages, curriculum development, literature circles, and read-aloud discussions.
- Demonstration Teaching and Coaching
- Classroom demonstrations of minilessons, conferences, share sessions. Assisting classroom teacher as she/he tries on role of literacy workshop teacher.
- Keynote Speeches for conferences
- Hour-long formal and informal speeches on all topics pertaining to literacy instruction.
- Teacher/Administrator/Literacy Coach Study Groups
- After school, weekend, and online facilitation of study groups on self-selected topics in literacy instruction and curriculum design. Recent topics have included: essay writing (middle school), school-wide literacy reform, assessment, curriculum planning, and memoir writing.
- Courses
- From one week to semester long beginning and advanced courses designed around topics of literacy instruction. Recent course titles have included: "Creative Nonfiction: Can Teach Control, Craft, and Conviction, Grades 3-8," "Teaching the Qualities of Good Writing in K-3 Classrooms," "Exploring Reading/Writing Connections, Grades K-3".
