Problem posing and problem solving
     10 Black Dots as example
     How Many Feet in the Bed? (Cristina)
     What comes in 2's, 3's and 4's, One is a Snale

Looking closely at the world
     K alphabet book
     (Building book related to next handout on writing but paterns everywhere, too)
     Pattern Fish

Pairing books
     Important Book and Shapes, Shapes, Shapes

Book Share
     Highlight If You Hopped Like a Frog for interdisciplinary connection, others if time

Grades 3-5
Poem "Little Bits," we recite then they practice as two groups

Start: Share "Math is a Religion" and St. Peter at the Pearly Gates"

Overview: Emphasis on integrating math, language (reding/writing); and few books that show integration of math and science and social studies

Share Two Ways to Count to Ten; Invite them to do at least numbers 1-20
     Discuss problem posing briefly: What if we tried to count to 10 in other ways? What if we used a different number?
     Ask them to respond to at least two of writing prompts on overhead
     Share observations
     Possibly share the 2-97 hundred chart on primes
     Share other books: 100 Ants, Remainder of One, I Can Count the Petals, Grapes of Math
     Discuss handouts on writing

Contexts for writing: Addressing misconceptions; writing own word problems; building community; publishing writing for a larger audience

     Fractions: Why is 1/2 greater than 1/8? Share Gator Pie (Make copy of book for them)

     Problem Solving: Nancy Creech problems; invite them to create a problem based on feet; share a few; now reverse known and unknown; share; show children's work

     Definitions of circles; share some of Rheta's vocabulary origins

     Math Curse and "One Half" story

Book Share: they share a book with a partner and then swap books with another pair; then talk about them in foursomes. Books include: One of Three; Picture Pie; Actual Size; Sea Squares; Tangrams; Tiger Math; Two of Everything; World Were a Village; Hopped Like a Frog; Math Book for Girls; How Much is Million; Anno's Jar; A Grain of Rice; Number Sense and Nonsense

Ending: Literature reflection "Remote back"
     Practice "Little Bits" once more
