Institute Overview
This Institute is designed so that every attendee is an active participant in the learning program and will leave with ideas for new assessments and plans for introducing new instructional practices. Join these visionary teachers and scholars to share insights and practical approaches to questions like these:

  • Just what does 21st-century literacies mean?

  • Given the tools available and circumstances facing teachers and students today, how do we best:

    • Design new tasks and activities that tap 21st-century literacies

    • Fully engage students as readers and writers and foster connections between out-of-school literacy practices and school tasks

    • Help students identify reliable sources of information and analysis

    • Use assessment strategies that match with Web 2.0 processes and texts

    • Learn to employ new teaching and learning technologies with confidence

    • Share new texts and practices with in-school audiences, parents, and communities

    • Reap the benefits of ever-increasing diversity in our classrooms and society

    • Nurture a lifelong love for literacy learning and expression

Institute Schedule

Who Should Attend
Whether you’re a committed preK–12 literacy educator, college/university-level faculty member, participant on a school or departmental team, or a district- or state-level leader, this hands-on Institute will help you develop and design literacy curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment practices to prepare students for success in the 21st century.

Workshop Fee: $450* member/$490* nonmember

* Cost is for registration only. Travel and lodging expenses are the responsibility of the attendee.

  • Sunday evening reception and program
