Literacies for All Summer Institute
July 9-12, 2009, Columbia, South Carolina
"Learning in the Company of Others: Reading, Writing, and Inquiring in the 21st Century" is the theme for the 20th summer institute, sponsored by the Whole Language Umbrella of NCTE. Attendees will explore what it means to be literate in the 21st century, and how communities of educators can support one another in pursuing work they believe in.
Speakers include educators Brian Cambourne and Lorraine Wilson from Australia, and Heidi Mills, Tim O’Keefe, Katie Wood Ray, Susi Long; Carmen Agra Deedy, author of the well-known children’s book The Library Dragon and more recent award winners like Martina the Beautiful Cockroach, will also share her work as author and storyteller.
