The National Council of Teachers of English, with more than 35,000 members and subscribers worldwide, is dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of English and the language arts at all levels of education.

For more than 100 years NCTE has been the home for teachers in all areas of literacy education at all grade levels.

In 2011 NCTE and the Ball Foundation introduced the National Center for Literacy Education to celebrate the work of successful school teams across the country who are achieving remarkable results in advancing literacy learning. In April 2013 NCLE released findings of a national survey on professional learning, Remodeling Literacy Learning: Making Room for What Works.
