Common Core Standards and the Shift to Content Literacy - Previous Revision

The Common Core Standards make it clear that teachers from all content areas must share responsibility for students' successful use of literacy as a tool for learning.  In Common Core Standards and the Shift to Content Literacy, you will learn ways to help students successfully use literacy skills (reading, writing, speaking, thinking, and listening) in order to learn the complex content of your discipline.    

This cohort-based online course will kick off in January 2013 and run for 16 weeks. In addition to reading and viewing a variety of professional resources, you will be expected to submit assignments by set dates and participate fully as a member of the cohort by interacting with and providing feedback to others in the group. Your enrollment may include a LIVE Web seminar event. Details about this will be provided to course registrants. Those who are not able to be present for the live event will receive access to the recording of this event. Assessment of this course will be Pass/Fail and will be determined by the course facilitator.

On Being Successful in this Course: As an online course, success depends on your thorough reading and viewing, your independence in understanding the readings, and integration of ideas, concepts, and strategies that are presented in the resources. Participants will be asked to post assignments and reflections weekly. It is expected that participants post on time in order to prepare for subsequent learning. Graduate continuing education credit is available for an additional charge through the University of San Diego.
