February 1 Is Digital Literacy DayThe Alliance for Excellent Education (AEE) and more than 20 education partners, including NCTE, are making plans for the first Digital Learning Day, Wednesday, February 1, 2012. Digital Learning Day is the culminating event in a year-round awareness campaign to improve teaching and learning for all children. On Digital Learning Day, AEE challenges everyone to:

  • Start a conversation with your constituents about how digital learning can help students achieve their goals.
  • Try one new thing using or integrating technology to see what digital technology can do.
  • Showcase your success or the success of your students and show how digital learning works for everyone.

The following resources from NCTE and ReadWriteThink.org provide more information on digital learning, which includes any instructional practice that is effectively using technology to strengthen the student learning experience.

The themed issue of Language Arts "Beyond PowerPoints and Scavenger Hunts" (E-M) investigates what children know about the plethora of digital tools available and how they use them, as well as how teachers integrate media in creative and critical ways. Lesson Plans for Developing Digital Literacies

In Lesson Plans for Developing Digital Literacies (M-S), editors Mary T. Christel and Scott Sullivan present a set of lessons designed to help with the integration of a variety of digital applications -- Web 2.0 and beyond -- into courses and units of teaching.
