Honesty and Clarity in Public Language Return
The NCTE George Orwell Award for Distinguished Contribution to Honesty and Clarity in Public Language will be given at the Sunday General Session, November 20. Established in 1975 and given by the NCTE Public Language Award Committee, the award recognizes writers who have made outstanding contributions to the critical analysis of public discourse. This year, Sierra Club Books is releasing an updated 30th anniversary e-book edition of the book which won the 1982 award, Nukespeak, by Stephen Hilgartner, Rory O'Connor, and Richard Bell. The new edition keeps the text of the first book and adds four new chapters by O'Connor and Bell bringing the major themes of the book up to date. Two of the chapters deal with the two major accidents since 1982, Chernobyl and Fukushima.
