The Middle Level Section of NCTE is the home for middle school and junior high educators, administrators and teacher educators interested in the area of adolescent literacy in the English language arts classroom. 


Hoey Award Deadline Extended

The Edwin A. Hoey Award, sponsored by Weekly Reader, recognizes exceptional English language arts teachers of grades 5-8 who have demonstrated excellence in teaching English language arts and inspired a spirit of inquiry and a love of learning in their students.  The award deadline has been extended to April 1, 2012.

Help Make a Difference in Literacy Education

During this Literacy Education Advocacy Month, you can find your voice and take action right from your own computer or phone.

Take one step today.  By March 16, contact your representative to ask him or her to sign on to Rep. David Price’s "Dear Colleague" letter to appropriate $154.3M to the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Take another step tomorrow.  Register for "Finding Our Voice -- Speaking Out to Build Support for Our Work," a free Web seminar on Tuesday, March 27, at 8 p.m. Eastern time, and learn how you can make a difference by sharing the importance of what you do as an educator.
