Search for a New Editor of The ALAN Review
The Assembly on Literature for Adolescents of NCTE (ALAN) is seeking a new editor of The ALAN Review. The present coeditors, Lori Atkins Goodson and James Blasingame, will be resigning from the position after the Summer 2009 issue. Classroom teachers are eligible and encouraged to apply. Applications must be received no later than October 1, 2008. Finalist interviews will be conducted at the NCTE Annual Convention in San Antonio in November. Please see the ALAN website for complete application information.

Help Shape NCTE Positions by Submitting a Resolution

Propose a resolution that may be voted on at NCTE's Annual Convention. If passed, proposed resolutions become part of the Council's position/philosophy on questions related to the teaching of English and can assist the Council in developing action programs. Resolutions must be postmarked by October 15.


NCTE Centennial: A Blast from the Past
Did you know that sense of the house motions made at NCTE conventions were often serious affairs? While today sense of the house motions are rarely offered on monumental issues, at the 1973 NCTE Convention in Philadelphia it was a different scenario. John Berger of California moved to "support the impeachment of President Nixon and particularly call for Mr. Nixon to account for his misuse of the English language and for his having engaged in certain 'illegal' acts." The motion failed.
