A Sampling of Post-conference Participant Comments

I pledge to engage and inspire the governance of my organization of the importance of P21 framework in order to get them to lead the next generation of science standards. I am working with teachers and kids to develop ways of teaching new literacy without electricity--ways of understanding the practices without using tools that are exclusionary.
Explain what is 21st Century Skills to other educators and how it has changed our children's world.  That 21st Century Skills means more than reading and writing, but must include reading and writing. Share best practices and consciously incorporate 21st Century Skills in performance assessments and communicate about the framework to membership.
Actively seek out ways in which, through new taxonomies and folksonomies (such as tag clouds) can help distributed collaborative human intelligences (Howard Rheingold's "living databases") discover new ways of teaching, learning, and assessment made possible in online environments. Attempt to integrate ideas of P21 skills into our existing materials for math teachers.  Help to revise the ICT Literacy Map in Mathematics.  Participate in 21 discussions about assessment and revisions to framework re: principles and "best practices" of assessment.
In the next 12-18 months I can work with teams to help them infuse global awareness into their classrooms through the teacher resources work developed and help them to learn the digital literacy skills they need to create media projects with and for their students.  I can also work internally to develop training for staff and create messaging for them to be able to understand, discuss, and promote the materials developed. The theme for NCTE's 2007 Convention is Mapping Diverse Literacies for the 21st Century.  I hope that this will focus attention on 21st Century practices, texts, and assessments.  Also, we have a literacy map galley -- with maps of all kinds (posters, hypertext) and reflections on how 21st Century literacies are evolving.
Educate others on the importance of this issue in examining resources available and sharing them with others.  Look into and develop these literacy practices with students.  Study the importance of this implementation keeping abreast of new developments.  Believe in literacy as transformation.

Help shape the content, both the core content (economies) plus the 21st Century Skills (financial, economic, business, entrepreneur) that can help audience the P21 framework.  help shape the future of professional development in our area of expertise.

Build the best initiative model possible for teachers around the world to learn 21st Century Skills. Advocate for distributed online support systems for educators, which I sincerely hope that Thinkfinity will enable.
Advocate for authentic forms of assessment which enable students and teachers to collect evidence of learning, select the ones that best demonstrate competencies, reflect on what the artifacts tell us about learning, connect that learning to other learning and lifetime contexts, and project our learning processes and capabilities into the future. Electronic teaching and learning portfolios, in the widest definition, seem to provide the best umbrella for these forms of assessment that can drive curriculum, teacher training, and professional development.
Post student work (with appropriate criteria and scaffolding) on website to be critiqued by student peers to address "assessment" as a 21st Century Skill. What is your pledge toward developing and sustaining 21st Century Literacies?
