In this episode, Alex Corbitt and Gretchen Taylor talk with Chris Lehman about his experiences working in schools, speaking with a new generation of teachers, and what culturally relevant books he is reading. In addition, he talks about the value of making time to talk with students in order to better understand their world and the way they see it. In a new segment of Voices from the Bookshelf, Beth Shaum's students from St. Francis Cabrini Middle School in Allen Park, MI, share their thoughts on books they have been reading with a new round of Twitter Book Talks. Claire discusses Flying Solo by Ralph Fletcher, Derek discusses Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, Joey discusses Wizards of the Game by David Lubar, Leo discusses his views on All American Boys by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely, and Lily discusses Smile by Raina Telgemeier.
