  Abstract: In this issue of School Talk, Karen Smith, Sarah Diaz, and Silvia Edgerton bring the ideas of purposefulness and intertextuality together in an approach that expands our thinking about students’ meaning-making processes as they engage in “grand conversations” across a set of related texts. Smith provides some background information, and Diaz and Edgerton show us how such an approach works in their classrooms.
