Susi Long and Linda Crafton, coeditors

Abstract: The April issue of School Talk looks at the role of classroom communities in shaping students’ identities. Mariana Souto-Manning writes about the importance of using a student’s given name, even if it is culturally unfamiliar to the teacher. Then Victoria Dixon-Mokeba and the students, families, and staff at the Carolina School for Inquiry tell readers about their extraordinary school community and how it has helped students and parents to see themselves in a new light.
