Abstract:
Sonia Nieto, NCTE’s 2005 Outstanding Educator in the English Language Arts, uses this issue of School Talk to look at why people choose a career in teaching. She sets the stage, and then eight ELA teachers from various schools and situations and with varied amounts of experience, all tell their stories of why they became teachers and why being a teacher still matters.
