Abstract:
A first grade teacher introduced critical picture books during story time and documented the ways in which the discussions of these books influenced children’s thinking and interactions with others. These influences include increases in the children’s awareness of social issues, ideas for social action, motivation for writing, attention to art, ability to get along with others, intertextual connections, and attention to multiple perspectives.
