We are seeking applicants for the following positions:

ADMINISTRATIVE LIASION
The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), a professional organization for English educators, is seeking a qualified individual to fill an Administrative Liaison position.

Administrative Liaisons serve as the primary staff link for designated portions of the Council membership. In this capacity they must:

  • Support Council leaders associated with their constituent groups.
  • Serve as a two-way communications link to group constituents or participants/users of the core administrative functions they support.
  • Actively collaborate with the Executive Director’s office on administrative policy questions/matters with legal or strategic consequences for the Council.
  • Maintain vital administrative records, minutes, or other accounts of key decisions and programmatic outcomes of initiatives engaged in by their constituency or central to their administrative function.

The qualified individual will possess:

  • Direct experience as a literacy educator at the high school or college levels.
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or Business-related field.
  • Experience working in an administrative role with a non-profit membership organization, a learned/scholarly society, or publisher/entertainment media company targeting high school or college educators.
  • Experience in orienting and supporting volunteer group leaders, documenting decisions, or interpreting governance policies.
  • Experience designing presentations, articles, or invitational messages for teachers based on interpretation of research trends or audience feedback.
  • Experience and expertise working in a social network environment for professional purposes.
  • Functioning as a consistent contributor and effective decision-maker in a collaborative, goal-focused, team-centered work environment.

SENIOR DEVELOPER, INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT
The National Council of Teachers of English has a challenging opportunity for a senior marketing professional to develop and supervise the implementation of plans to enhance branding, revenue growth, sales expansion, and membership engagement.

Responsibilities include designing and implementing sales and outreach plans to maximize use and sales of professional learning resources, books, journal subscriptions, convention registrations, sponsorships, and grant-funded initiatives. Implementation campaigns should incorporate ongoing analysis of audience response in order to improve subsequent outreach efforts or product development.   

The qualified applicant will possess a bachelor’s degree in an applicable field, although a master’s is preferred; experience as a senior  marketing professional in a not-for-profit organization; proven track record in membership and revenue growth; strong analytical, writing, and communication skills; ability to establish, maintain, and adhere to budgets; ability to maintain effective relationships with management, employees, and the general public; a deep understanding of NCTE’s mission and its implications for service to the profession; and the ability to travel. Additional necessary qualifications include expertise using the full range of promotional media: direct mail, social media, event marketing, one-to-one outreach, and email campaigns.
