We are seeking applicants for the following position:

CONVENTIONS AND MEETING PLANNER
The National Council of Teachers of English, headquartered in Urbana, IL, has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Convention and Meeting Planner.  This position will play a critical role in developing meetings that serve as professional development opportunities for literacy educators to advance student learning.  The position will collaborate frequently with NCTE staff, volunteer leadership, hotel/convention center management and vendors to provide effective learning experiences for literacy educators.  Qualified applicants will have a minimum of three years recent experience in managing effective, profitable meetings.

Bachelor’s degree in business, management, communications, or certified meeting planner designation preferred.    Knowledge of trends and issues in literacy education a plus.   Additional requirements include:

  • Excellent analytic, communication, collaboration, and negotiation skills
  • Experience in evaluating competitive site bids and vendor proposals
  • Effective presentation skills
  • Knowledge of professional development trends and opportunities
