2008 Nell Ann Pickett Award Winner
For her outstanding dedication, service, and leadership, Judith "Jay" Wootten of Kent State University, Salem Campus in Salem, Ohio, has been selected as the 2008 winner of the Nell Ann Pickett Service Award.
This award honors an outstanding teacher who exemplifies creativity, sensitivity, and leadership. It is named for Nell Ann Pickett, professor of English at Hinds Community College, Raymond, Mississippi. Pickett was instrumental in the creation of TYCA and served as editor of the TYCA journal, Teaching English in the Two-Year College, from 1988 to 1994. The award was presented at the CCCC Awards Ceremony on April 4, 2008.
Dr. Judith “Jay” Wootten is an Assistant Professor of English at Kent State University, Salem Campus in Ohio. Dr. Wootten has been active at both the regional and national level for many years. Having served as chair of TYCA-Midwest, she then went on to serve as chair of National TYCA in 2000-2001. She has also served in numerous committee positions with TYCA, NCTE, and CCCC. Dr. Wootten is an exemplary teacher/scholar who has a long history of very active involvement in professional organizations that promote two-year colleges, and has mentored many two-year college faculty and students for over two decades.
