“All Hands on Grammar” – the Assembly for the Teaching of English Grammar (ATEG) is trying something new for its Annual Conference. Instead of the traditional presentations of scholarly papers, this year’s conference will put attendees to work in creating materials for teaching grammar through visuals and manipulatives. The conference (Chicago, July 15–16, 2005) is preceded by a two-day mini-course. The mini-course enlightens teachers at all grade levels in the fundamentals of linguistic grammar. Are you interested in the social and political issues in the teaching of the English Language Arts? SLATE (Support for the Learning and Teaching of English) is the NCTE Standing Committee on Social and Political Concerns, organized at the 1975 Annual Convention.
SLATE seeks to influence public attitudes and policy decisions affecting the teaching of English language arts at local, state, and national levels; seeks to implement and publicize the policies adopted by NCTE; and serves as NCTE's intellectual freedom network.
