CALENDAR OF AFFILIATE DEADLINES AND EVENTS
Send changes in officers, addresses, telephones, faxes, and e-mails to Affiliate Director as soon as you know them.
Send affiliate conference announcements to Affiliate Director as soon as you know the date, place, and contact person.
Send requests for Cosponsored Speakers to Affiliate Director at least six months before your conference.
Send requests for Exhibit Kits to Affiliate Director at least six weeks before your conference.

Requirements of Affiliation:
- Each affiliate holds at least one general meeting each year for the total membership, of which a part shall be devoted to the business of the affiliate. In addition, the governing board of the affiliate shall hold at least one additional meeting per year.
- Each affiliate maintains effective means of disseminating information to the membership (usually at least a newsletter). The NCTE Affiliate Director and Standing Committee on Affiliates Regional Representative should be on the list to receive all publications.
- Each affiliate submits dues and an annual report to NCTE.
- Each affiliate must be represented at least once every three years at the NCTE Board of Directors Meeting (see November).
August
Early Aug.: Register for the NCTE Annual Convention and secure a hotel room. See the July Convention Preview on the NCTE Web site for details, registration forms, and hotel information.
September
Sept. 15: Last day for receipt of affiliate dues and name(s) of NCTE Director(s) in order to be represented at the Annual Business Meeting of the Board of Directors.
Sept. 15: Deadline for submitting student affiliate roster updates, dues, annual report forms, and editor reports.
October
Make last-minute preparations for the Convention. Note that if your NCTE Director is unable to attend the Convention, the Affiliate Office can help you find a convention registrant from your area to represent your affiliate at the Board of Directors Meeting.
Oct. 15: Deadline for submitting resolutions to the NCTE Resolutions Committee Chair.
November
Early Nov.: Board of Directors packets e-mailed to all designated directors by early November.
Nov. 15-18 (postconvention workshops: Nov. 19-20), 2007: NCTE Annual Convention in New York, NY.
December
Dec. 1: Newly elected and appointed NCTE officers, committee chairs, commission directors, members of the Standing Committee on Affiliates and the SLATE Steering Committee take office.
January/February
Late Jan.: Affiliates and student affiliates receive information and applications for Affiliate Excellence, High School Teacher of Excellence, Leadership Development, Journal, Newsletter, Multicultural, Web Site, NCTE/SLATE Intellectual Freedom (National as well as State, Provincial, and Regional), and NCTE Fund Teachers for the Dream awards.
January - February: NCTE Cosponsored Speakers program for next school year emailed to affiliates.
March
Mar. 21-24, 2007: CCCC Convention in New York, NY
April
Month of April: NCTE Advocacy Month
Early Apr.: NCTE ballots are mailed.
April 2: Membership lists are due at NCTE headquarters.
Apr. 17: Advocacy Day (hopefully your affiliate will send a representative)

Early May: Annual report reminders mailed to affiliates (reports are due August 15 for 2006).
May 1: Applications for most affiliate awards are due (High School Teacher of Excellence, Leadership Development, Journal, Newsletter, Multicultural, Web Site, NCTE/SLATE Intellectual Freedom (National as well as State, Provincial, and Regional), and NCTE Fund Teachers for the Dream).
May 15: NCTE Directors receive minutes of the last Annual Business Meeting of the Board of Directors for reporting to the members of their affiliate.
June
June 1: Deadline for receipt of NCTE ballots at NCTE headquarters.
June 15: Allotment of NCTE Directors is sent to each affiliate.
June 22-24, 2007: Affiliate Leadership Meeting for Regions 1, 3, 7, and 8 in Chicago, Illinois. Each affiliate sends up to four representatives (out-of-region affiliates are welcome but must pay all expenses).
July
July 15.: Notices sent to affiliates to submit roster updates, dues, and annual reports; submission of SLATE annual reports; and submission of editor reports. These will all be due sometime in late summer or early fall. Notices will include a specific due date.
July 15: Applications for Affiliate Excellence Awards are due.
July 15: Information for the affiliate flier due. The affiliate flier goes into production with information currently listed on file at NCTE. The flier includes names of all active affiliates and available Web site addresses plus names, addresses, and e-mail addresses for their membership chairs. The affiliate flier is also published on the NCTE Web site.
July 12-15, 2007: Whole Language Umbrella Conference in Louisville, Kentucky.
late July: Members receive the Convention Preview in the July Council Chronicle.
