At its most basic level, differentiated instruction means students have multiple options for taking in information, making sense of ideas, and expressing what they learn.  Differentiated instruction is an approach to planning so that one lesson is taught to the entire class while meeting the individual needs of each child.  In other words, a differentiated classroom provides different avenues to acquiring content, processing or making sense of ideas, and developing products.
