Natasha Wing

Natasha WingNatasha Wing, author of literature for young readers, has published 19 children’s books, with more in the works.

She is best known for her paperback series based on the popular story, The Night Before Christmas. The stories are about families celebrating holidays and other big events in kids’ lives such as the first day of school and losing a tooth. Her titles include The Night Before Easter, the original book in the series which was published in 1999, and The Night Before Kindergarten, the highest-selling title which has regularly been on bestseller lists since its publication in 2001.

Wing’s multicultural book, Jalapeño Bagels, is a favorite among second grade teachers and students since it is included in several textbook series. The story is based on a real bakery in Arcata, California and includes recipes from the bakery.

Go to Bed, Monster! is a favorite among blog reviewers, earning a nomination for the Cybils Award in 2008. The story is about Lucy who has an active imagination and trouble going to sleep. She draws a crayon monster which comes to life! The two play together until Lucy grows sleepy. After many attempts to put Monster to bed fail, she comes up with just the right way to settle him down.

An Eye for Color: The Story of Josef Albers is about a neighbor of hers when she was growing up in Connecticut. The artist of the "Homage to the Square" series studied color for 25 years and changed how teachers taught color. Several of her poems appear in anthologies, and she has written articles for children’s magazines such as Highlights and Babybug.

Wing also produced a DVD about being a writer titled, A Visit with Natasha Wing. It is geared toward young readers and includes a reading of The Night Before Kindergarten.
