Maria has been an educator for over 25 years and has experience teaching at the middle school, high school and university levels. Currently professor in the Department of Secondary Education at California State University, Fullerton, Maria specializes in content literacy and formative assessment. She is director of the Secondary Teacher Education Program, with a focus on credentialing new middle school and secondary teachers as well as teaching content literacy courses.
In addition to her work at the university, Maria spends two days a week at Health Sciences High & Middle College (a local high school) working in the classroom with students and coaching teachers. She is a credentialed physical sciences teacher, and this background allows Maria to bring a unique perspective to her role as a literacy consultant.
Maria's experience includes several years working as a coach, professional developer, and consultant for schools throughout the country. She has authored numerous publications, including articles in Educational Leadership and the Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy.
