Language Learners in the English Classroom
Consultant: Douglas Fisher

In this workshop, Doug focuses on the role of English teachers in developing students’ language. Specifically, participants will focus on grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension in both reading and writing instruction relative to English language learners.
Playful Language Learning Through Poetry (K-8)
Consultant: Ingrid Wendt

The daughter of a Chilean, consultant Ingrid Wendt brings her experience teaching poetry writing bi-lingually (English-Spanish) and her belief in the hidden poets within us all, to show how simple writing activities can strengthen students’ beliefs in their own perceptions and their wishes to learn the words to express them. Based on her popular teaching guide, Ingrid leads teachers (in workshops and/or demonstration classes) in easily-grasped activities that secretly work two ways: inspiring students to express themselves in English, and teaching building blocks of language, such as metaphor, shared by both poetry and prose.
English Language Learners: Embracing Multiple Languagues in PreK and Elementary Classrooms
