Accent on Meter: A Handbook for Readers of Poetry
Authors: Joseph Powell, Mark Halperin
Accent on Meter: A Handbook for Readers of Poetry offers practical ways of teaching students about the close connections between the meaning, rhythm, and meter in poetry. The major assumption of the book is that a close reading of a poem—one that explores the nuances of structure—can increase one’s appreciation and enjoyment of poetry. In the words of the authors, “What the poem is about and how it explores that material is more important than the technical means it uses. Yet by focusing on those means, we can perhaps get closer to finding out why we felt what we felt. That process can deepen our reading, enhance it, complicate it.”
Across Property Lines: Textual Ownership in Writing Groups
Author: Candace Spigelman
In Across Property Lines, Candace Spigelman investigates the dynamics of ownership in small-group writing workshops, basing her findings on case studies involving two groups: a five-member creative writing group meeting monthly at a local Philadelphia coffee bar and a four-member college-level writing group meeting in their composition classroom.
Administrative Problem-Solving for Writing Programs and Writing Centers
Editor(s): Linda Myers-Breslin
Linda Myers-Breslin presents essays from experienced writing program administrators (WPAs) and writing center directors ( WCDs) that offer scenarios and case studies demonstrating the types of issues that these administrators have faced and their solutions. Covering a broad range of topics, including staffing a writing center, training new graduate instructors, acquiring funding, asserting authority, and keeping up with changing technologies, this collection will help both new and experienced WPAs and WCDs develop and maintain effective, efficient, and successful programs and centers.
