Help Shape the Future of CEL

  • The 2017 CEL election ballots will be sent by email to current CEL members in October.
  • CEL members without an email address will receive a ballot by postal mail.
  • Visit "My Account" on the NCTE website to make changes to your email address or update your member profile. You may phone NCTE Customer Service at 877-369-6283 to update this information as well and/or check on your CEL membership.
  • Candidate information will also appear in the October issue of English Leadership Quarterly.

Vote on the CEL Bylaw Change

The CEL Executive Committee recommends discontinuing the position of CEL Liaison to Secondary Section as currently mandated by Article V. While we remain committed to continuing a mutually supportive relationship with other NCTE groups and sections, we feel as though moving to a less-structured and formal arrangement would provide more flexibility for exploring various partnerships.

The 2017 CEL election ballot will include the opportunity to vote on this change. Please review the proposed Bylaw change and vote accordingly.

The CEL election will close at 11:59 p.m. Central Time, Wednesday, November 1.

2018 Election Call for Nominations:  Deadline February 1

The CEL Nominating Committee is seeking candidates for the positions of Member-at-Large and Associate Chair for the CEL Executive Committee.

To nominate a candidate, complete the Nomination Form.

Elected Offices
The Associate Chair and Members-at-Large are elected directly by the general membership of the Conference on English Leadership by mail or electronic ballot.

The Associate Chair is elected biennially and serves two years, becomes President for two years, and then becomes Past President for two years on the CEL Executive Committee. Nominees must have been or be currently serving in either an elected or appointed position on the CEL Executive Committee.

Members-at-Large serve a term for three years representing the general membership on the CEL Executive Committee and help determine and implement CEL initiatives. Nominees must have attended two or more CEL conventions and volunteered in some capacity, such as by working on the Hospitality Committee or presenting/presiding at a breakout session.

Election Process
A slate containing the names of the two candidates for Member-at-Large no more than two candidates for Associate Chair biennially shall appear in the fall journal or earlier. Each CEL member will be sent a ballot by mail or electronically to cast their vote no fewer than fifteen days prior to the business session of the CEL Annual Convention. The ballot shall also provide space for write-in candidates. The results shall be announced before the conclusion of the CEL Annual Convention.
