is the CEL Nominations Chair. An Eastern Kentucky University alumnus, he served as the CEL as a Member-at-Large from 2006 to 2008. In 2004, he founded the Northern Kentucky Region of The Scholastic Writing Awards and served as its director for six years.
Ken worked for twenty years as an English teacher at Holmes High School in Covington, Kentucky, where he also served as chair of the English Department, newspaper adviser, literary magazine adviser, boys’ assistant basketball coach, and boys’ tennis coach. Then, he became the Covington district’s first writing supervisor and taught model writing lessons for seven years in grades PK-12. Ken also worked in a leadership position for two years at the Kentucky Department of Education and as an assistant principal for three years before retiring from public education. However, he continued to teach as an adjunct English instructor at Northern Kentucky University until 2009.
In 1988, Ken was elected Secretary of the Kentucky Council of Teachers of English/Language Arts and went on to serve twice as president and later as the state liaison to NCTE. He was a member of the KCTE/LA Executive Board for eighteen years.
Ken enjoys reading thriller and mystery novels, watching sports, and traveling.
