Heather D. Rocco - Previous Revision

HEATHER D. ROCCO is the supervisor of English language arts for grades 6 – 12 in the School District of the Chathams located in New Jersey.  She served as the K – 12 Supervisor of Language Arts in Westfield, New Jersey, for seven years before moving to Chatham in 2010.  Her education experiences spans over fifteen years, working on the secondary and higher education levels.  She earned her bachelor’s degree in English and her master’s in the Teaching of Writing from Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York.

A member of NCTE since 1999, Heather was introduced to CEL during the first weeks of her supervisory position and immediately found an organization that offers guidance on the unique situations facing language arts leaders.  Since then, she has increased her involvement in CEL beginning with convention attendance to presenting at conventions and serving on the Executive Committee.

Heather seeks joy in life’s simple things.  She loves nature photography, loud music, vinyasa yoga, and sunny beaches.  She is particularly passionate about contemporary poetry and loves to read poems by Ted Kooser, Phillip Schultz, Marge Piercy, Maya Angelou, and Billy Collins.  She believes that the best teachers and leaders see themselves as students first.
