2016 Award Recipient - Carol Jago
The CEL Kent Williamson Exemplary Leader Award is named in honor of Kent D. Williamson (1957-2015), who served as NCTE's Executive Director from 2000-2015. The award is given annually to an NCTE member who is an outstanding English Language Arts educator and leader. NCTE and CEL members nominate an exceptional leader who has had an impact on the profession.
The Leadership Achievement Award is given in recognition of leadership achievement. Recipients are selected from nominees for the CEL Kent Williamson Exemplary Leader Award whom committee members believe to be worthy of recognition. Nominations are not accepted for this award.
2016 Award Recipient - Kristen Hawley Turner
The Innovative Leadership Award recognizes an early- or mid-career leader and NCTE member who has shown innovative leadership at the local, regional, and/or national level or for innovative approaches to teaching and/or professional development through new and progressive methods and delivery models.
The first Teacher-Leader of Excellence Award winner will be honored in 2016. This new annual award is given to recognize an NCTE member who is an outstanding English Language Arts educator and local leader. NCTE and CEL members are encouraged to nominate an exceptional teacher-leader who has had a strong, positive impact on their school, district, and/or state through work that has focused on exceptional contributions to teaching and local leadership practices, such as team building, coaching, and curriculum development.
2015 Award Recipient Emily S. Meixner
The CEL English Leadership Quarterly Best Article Award is given annually to the authors of two articles written and published in English Leadership Quarterly. Book reviewers will not be eligible for consideration, but articles written for specific English Leadership Quarterly columns may be considered. Teachers currently on leave may be considered, as may former teachers presently not employed.
