To gain a better understanding of graduate and professional development programs in English Education from the perspective of those involved in creating and sustaining them, using that data to accurately describe graduate teacher education and pedagogical development in a time of standards and "packaged" PD programs. Little comprehensive data exists on existing models of English education graduate programs, yet providing information on these models would be useful for faculty who are working to establish or further develop graduate programs.
The Commission is currently exploring rationale for revising graduate programs and how these programs can also offer rigorous, sustained professional development for in-service teachers.
Analyzing the implications of professional development and graduate requirement changes as noted above; the next meeting of the Commission will further articulate specifics.
Also, Commission members are working with NCLE projects to explore options for offering professional development credits.
