Computers and Writing Online Conference Organizers Selection
Rationale
One of our committee's charters has been to coordinate the site selection process for the annual Computers and Writing online conference. This coordination has involved searching for sponsoring universities, supporting the transfer from site to site, maintaining mailing lists and other records, providing advice and logistical support for the online conference planners, and assisting in publicizing the online conference.
Over the years, site organizers have created online components of their online conferences in varied forms. The online component, as a result, has grown both in size, length of duration, prominence and in intellectual breadth. Its most recent iterations show that it is needs to have its own organizer selection process, a move that would not only lend deserved visibility and officiality for its many presenters and participants, but would also recognize the complexity and challenges required to successful organize and manage the online portion of the conference.
Our Response
To create an online organizers selection process to ensure the online conference continues to grow and mature and to formalize the relationship between the on-site and online conference experiences.
Organizers Selection Process
Background Information
In the summer of 2000, Tari Fanderclai, Bradley Dilger, Cindy Wambeam, and James Inman brought this issue to 7Cs, and the result was an active, but sometimes controversial electronic list discussion. Many different options were proposed.
Committee chair Dickie Selfe suggested that the conversation needed to emphasize specific committee actions and language, and as a result, Nick Carbone, Michael Day, Tari Fanderclai, and James Inman volunteered to author these materials.
Forms and Procedures
The application process has been streamlined as much as possible. Prospective online organizers should read through and complete the following documents, as appropriate:
