Committee Charge
This committee is charged to:
- Survey members about the practices of preparing teachers for the writing classroom on their campus, with attention to what is required or offered for instructors of different employment categories and prior experience, including new graduate students, new and experienced adjuncts, full-time contract, and tenure track, people with no focused training in the teaching of writing, and those with degrees in the field.
- Gather more detailed information about the actual preparation practices on campuses that have more developed programs, and create an informational website, wiki, or similar means to allow the dissemination and sharing of programs and practices.
- Identify programs that provide special attention to preparing teachers for diverse student bodies, for linguistic diversity in their classrooms, and for working with students with disabilities. Share information on practices in these programs along with the information on charge 2.
- On the basis of this information gathering and sharing, and in coordination with existing CCCC positions, statements, and actions on the subject, make recommendations, if appropriate, to the Executive Committee for a position statement on preparation of teachers of writing of different categories or for particular concerns or for programs or activities the CCCC might engage in for similar purposes.
- Update and revise the Position Statement on Preparation and Professional Development of Teachers of Writing, and present a draft of the revised document for review by May 2012.
