Read
For over seventy-five years, the NCTE Books Program has published resources for teachers' professional development at every level, elementary through college. We release 12 to 15 books each year.
NCTE books focus on current issues and problems in teaching, research findings and their application to classrooms, ideas for teaching all aspects of English, and other topics.
The complete list features over 300 titles, so you're sure to find a professional resource that will enrich your teaching. Browse our online store for more information, including sample chapters and tables of contents for most books. You may also phone NCTE's Customer Service department toll free at 877-369-6283 (fax: 217-328-9645).

Write
“I have long perceived NCTE as my ‘professional home,’ and it was reasonable and natural to turn to NCTE to publish research that I thought would have a significant impact on how we prepare and support English teachers. From initial inquiry to final publication, the staff at NCTE has been supportive, instructive, and generous. The editorial staff handled the book project with great care to craft a quality publication, consistently working collaboratively and respectfully with the authors.”—Thomas M. McCann, coauthor (with Larry R. Johannessen and Bernard P. Ricca) of Supporting Beginning English Teachers: Research and Implications for Teacher Induction
Interested in writing a book? By publishing with NCTE, you join a community of professionals who have served and shaped the profession through their research, teaching, and scholarship. NCTE book authors:
- receive thoughtful and constructive reviews of their manuscripts
- work closely with experienced NCTE editorial staff who ensure that you are happy with the process and proud of the result
- earn royalties that are competitive with those offered by other academic and commercial publishers
- are considered for further professional opportunties, such as joining NCTE's Professional Development Consulting Network or writing lesson plans for ReadWriteThink, our award-winning online resource for reading and language arts instruction
Although we're proud of our publications, we are not a vanity press. All projects undergo rigorous peer review by experts in the field. We don't typically publish anthologies or single-authored works of creative writing, personal journals, student writing, or dissertations not revised for book publication.
