2012 Muhammad Ali Award for Writing on Ethics
The National Council of Teachers of English, Norman Mailer Center and Writers Colony, and the Muhammad Ali Center are pleased to announce an exciting new writing award for students. The award recognizes excellence in writing about ethics and features a $10,000 cash prize as well as a week-long writing workshop at the Mailer Center in Provincetown, MA during summer of 2013. This award is open to full time students enrolled in four-year colleges, two-year colleges, junior colleges, and technical colleges.

Program to Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines (PRESLM)
This program for middle schools, junior high, and high schools recognizes students, teachers, and schools for producing excellent literary magazines and encourages all schools to develop literary magazines, seeking excellence in writing and school-wide participation in production. Promising Young Writers (for 8th grade students) The 2013 PYW Brochure and additional details will be available in November 2012. This school-based writing program stimulates and recognizes student's writing talents and emphasizes the importance of writing skills among eighth-grade students.
Achievement Awards in Writing (for 11th grade students). 2012 AA Brochure. Submissions are accepted online and themed writing replaces the impromptu timed writing. Theme topic and instructions are included in the brochure. Electronic entry form. (PDF of 2012 entry form) Entry deadline Feb. 15, 2012. Student writings are uploaded as one document. This school-based writing program encourages high school students in their writing and recognizes publicly some of the best student writers in the nation.
