Kick off the convention with these preconference sessions then join us at the Middle Level Section Get-together at 4:30 p.m. The Get-together is a place to gather and exchange ideas and hear featuring speaker Alan Sitomer.
Finish up the evening with the Thursday General Session featuring singer and songwriter Natalie Merchant.
Are you a first time attendee? Then start the morning out at the First-Timer's Breakfast from 7:00-8:00 a.m. sponsored by The Random House Foundation Inc. Teacher Award for Literacy. Get some tips on making the most of your convention experience, and meet Jonathan Kozol who will announce the award winners and talk about the importance of mentoring.
Don't miss the Friday General Session featuring speaker Sir Ken Robinson, author, speaker, and international advisor on education in the arts to government, non-profits, education, and arts bodies.
Join us for the Middle Level Luncheon at 12:30 p.m with featured speaker Lemony Snicket. The NCTE Hoey Award, sponsored by Weekly Reader, honoring an outstanding middle level classroom teacher, is also presented. This year's award recipient is Jason Griffith from Lamberton Middle School in Carlisle, PA.

Start off Saturday morning with the ALAN Breakfast featuring Scott Scott Westerfeld as this year's speaker.
The Assembly on Literature for Adolescents of NCTE (ALAN) also sponsors Workshop W.15, "Reaching Them All—ALAN Has Books for Everyone" on Monday and Tuesday.
Join the 2012 Orbis Pictus Award for Outstanding Nonfiction for Children celebrations with a discussion of the winning nonfiction titles in Session G.26 and meet the authors of the winning nonfiction titles in Session K.16.
The Middle Level Mosaic Session JK.01 is a traditional high energy session where teachers come together with their favorite authors and literacy leaders to engage in discussions about literacy practices in interactive roundtable discussions. Featured speakers include Barry Lane, Bud Hunt, Troy Hicks, Sarah Kajdar, David Lubar, and Jeffrey Wilhelm.
