Convention on Tour: 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Preconvention Workshops: 1:00-3:45 p.m.

Elementary Section Get-together: 4:30-6:00 p.m.

Opening Reception: 6:00-6:30 p.m.

Thursday General Session: 6:30-8:00 p.m.

Friday, 11/21

First-Timer's Breakfast: 7:00-8:00 a.m. 

Sponsored by Random House Teacher Award for Literacy, this gathering allows first-time convention attendees to get some tips on making the most of their convention experience.

Friday General Session:  8:00-9:15 a.m. 

Whole Language Umbrella Day of Whole Language:  8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Hosted by the Whole Language Umbrella (WLU), the day features a strand of sessions focused on whole language theory and practice.  The Opening Session A.??? on Telling A Story, Taking a Stance, Creating A World! features educators from Arizona’s Zaharis Elementary describing the essential role of story in developing a school culture.


Saturday, 11/22

Early Childhood Education AssemblyDay of Early Childhood: 8:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

Hosted by the Early Childhood Education Assembly (ECEA), the day features a strand of sessions specifically designated and devoted to the teaching and learning of young children in preschool and early elementary. 

Heidi Mills and Tim O'Keefe Meet and learn from the 2014 Outstanding Educators Heidi Mills and Tim O'Keefe as they present Session C.???? "Changing Our Hearts, Minds, and Actions: Inquiry as A Way of Being."

Books for Children Luncheon: 12:30-2:30 p.m. (tickets required)

  • Meet and have lunch with your favorite children's author as they host your table.
  • Listen to the featured speaker award winning author Jacqueline Woodson.
  • Learn which poet has won the 2015 NCTE Poetry Award.
  • Hear from the winners of the 2014 Orbis Pictus Award for Children's Nonfiction.

Meet the Elementary Leadership as they present Session B.??? The Elementary Section Steering Committee Talks about Story and Tells Stories.

Children’s Literature Assembly Breakfast: 7:00-9:00 a.m. (tickets required)

Sponsored by the Children's Literature Assembly (CLA) this breakfast features author-illustrator Jon Klassen.

Join the CLA for Session N.???? "2014 Notable Children's Books in Language Arts." 

Ernest MorrellSunday General Session: 9:00-10:15 a.m.

Come listen to NCTE President, Ernest Morrell, as he gives his presidential address and join us in celebrating the winners of these NCTE Awards:
