Kick off the convention with these preconference sessions then join us at the Elementary Section Get-Together at 4:30 p.m. with speaker JoBeth Allen, this year’s winner of the Outstanding Educator in the Language Arts Award. As is the tradition, the time will be spent celebrating the award recipient for her work along with roundtable discussions led by noted educators. Also honored will be the winner of the Donald H. Graves Writing Award.
Finish up the evening with the Thursday General Session.
Start the morning out with the Friday General Session featuring speaker Sir Ken Robinson, author, and international advisor on education in the arts to government, non-profits, education, and arts bodies.
Join us for the Day of Whole Language, hosted by the Whole Language Umbrella (WLU), featuring sessions focused on whole langage theory and practice.

Plan to attend the Day of Early Childhood, hosted by the Early Childhood Education Assembly (ECEA). These sessions are specifically for educators of children in preschool and early elementary and are designated and devoted to issues of teaching, learning, and young children.
The Books for Children Luncheon is a favorite event for many elementary attendees. The winners of the 2012 NCTE Orbis Pictus Award for Outstanding Nonfiction for Children will be honored and this year’s luncheon speaker features award winning author Jon Scieszka.
Join the 2012 Orbis Pictus Award celebrations before and after the luncheon with a discussion of the winning nonfiction titles in Session G.26, and meet the authors of the winning nonfiction titles in Session K.16.

Highlights include the Children’s Literature Assembly Breakfast (CLA) featuring David Shannon and Session N.01 featuring the "2012 Notable Children's Books in Language Arts."
