NCTE Affiliate Leadership Meeting
July 13-15, 2012
St. Louis, Missouri
This year for NCTE Regions 2, 4, 5, 6.
Note that representatives from Regions 1, 3, 7 and 8 as well as extra affiliate representatives from any region are welcomed; however, NCTE does not cost-share on any of their expenses AND they must pay a registration fee.
Registration
Registration is a two-step process: registering for the meeting and making your hotel reservations. Both need to be completed by JUNE 1, 2012.
1) ALL meeting participants (affiliate representatives, early career educators of color leadership award recipients and institute staff, NCTE vice president and NCTE staff) need to register.
2) AFFILIATE REPRESENTATIVES ONLY need to make their own hotel reservations by the June 10 cut-off date. If you are rooming with someone, only ONE of you should make the reservation.
Agenda
The meeting will run from 4:00p.m., Friday, July 13, through 11:30a.m., Sunday, July 15. If you are flying or taking the train or bus, please make travel arrangements to arrive by 2p.m. on Friday and not to depart until 2p.m. on Sunday. We have a packed 1 1/2 days to step back, look at the big picture, and make plans for the future.
Costs
Note: NCTE provides cost-sharing for four of the eight affiliate regions each year. Cost-sharing for Regions 2, 4, 5, and 6 is provided during the even years while cost-sharing for Regions 1, 3, 7, and 8 is provided during the odd years.
NCTE will cost-share with affiliates in Regions 2, 4, 5 and 6 for the 2012 Affiliate Leadership Meeting.
NCTE and the participating affiliates share the cost of the meeting as is outlined in the Affiliate Leadership Meeting Reimbursement Policy.
Use the Cost Prediction Worksheet for Cost-Sharing estimates.
If your affiliate wants to send more than four representatives, the extra representative(s) will need to follow the procedures for an affiliate representative from a noncost-sharing region.
Not in a cost-sharing region this year?
In 2012, representatives from Regions 1, 3, 7, and 8 will need to pay a registration fee in addition to covering their own transportation or lodging. Hopefully, affiliates will sponsor these costs.
If this is not your affiliate's scheduled cost-sharing year, or if your affiliate would like to send additional representatives, you can use the regular Leadership Meeting Registration Form and submit it with your payment for the amount listed for out-of-region registrants.
Your affiliate (or you) are responsible for all expenses including:
1. All travel to and from the meeting.
2. All lodging expenses for the meeting.
3. Registration fees to cover group meals during the event.
Who Should Attend
The Affiliate Leadership Meeting Attendee Policy governs who should represent each affiliate. As your affiliate thinks about who will represent your group at the meeting, please consider the following:
- That two representatives are much better than one, three better than two, and four ideal.
- That it’s important to send affiliate leaders (or potential leaders) who might benefit the most from this meeting.
- That it’s equally important to send affiliate leaders (or potential leaders) whose attendance at the meeting will most benefit your affiliate.
- That current or incoming presidents benefit greatly from what they learn at the meeting about leadership and about the affiliate/NCTE connection.
- That representatives from groups currently underrepresented in your affiliate, such as persons of color and new teachers, might be the perfect people to work with other affiliate leaders at the meeting to develop membership recruitment and retention plans to bring members from their groups into your affiliate.
- That training in-coming leadership now will have the most pay-off later.
- That this opportunity with cost-sharing benefits only comes once every two years, so it’s important for your affiliate’s health and growth to take advantage of it.
