The Process
To apply for affiliation, the president (or another officer of the association) submits the application form and the items listed below. The completed application is presented to the NCTE Executive Committee, which votes on it. If the application is approved, a letter is sent to both the president and the liaison officers announcing the approval of a new affiliate. In addition, an announcement of approval is made in a regular Council publication.

Application Requirments for NCTE Affiliation
The president (or another officer of the association) submits the application form and the following items:
1. A copy of the association's constitution that:
- provides for continuity of personnel within the administration of the organization (e.g. by creating a permanent post of Executive Secretary; by appointing the liaison officer for a two-year term or longer; with officers ending their terms in alternate years; or retaining past officers as members of the governing board);
- states a relationship between the affiliate and NCTE;
- for local affiliates, states a relationship between the local council and the state or provincial council;
- contains a dissolution clause providing for disbursement of the affiliate's treasury to another nonprofit organization should affiliate become defunct;
- a copy is on file at NCTE.

6. If you are a local affiliate, you will need a letter of support from your state or provincial affiliate.

- Conference planning services through the Cosponsored Speaker Program
- One free exhibit kit per year containing NCTE books, publications, and informational documents to use at your conference
- Membership recruitment by sending an affiliate flier to all NCTE members, through the NCTE website links to affiliate membership information and the affiliate website (if there is one)
- Name and address lists and/or labels of NCTE members in the affiliate's area for use in conference promotion
- Information on a wide variety of projects and programs is available from the Affiliate/Assembly Lending Library and the ability to share ideas and information with other leaders through the affiliate discussion list
- Information on NCTE through the NCTE website and NCTE press releases and other announcements
